In our recent paper prepared in collaboration with American University of Beirut and published in the latest issue of the ‘Viruses’ in April 2021, the prevalence of HTLV-1 infection among the general population and high-risk groups in the Eastern Mediterranean countries of the World Health Organization (EMRO) was discussed.

We concluded that HTLV-1 epidemiology in EMRO countries needs to be carefully reviewed and updated. We found little evidence of the virus spread in EMRO African countries and its low prevalence in EMRO Asian countries except Iran.
